Zerodraft Home Energy Makeover

Zerodraft Insulation LLC in partnership with The New London Day newspaper created a contest to promote the energy saving possibilities of retrofitting older less energy efficient homes. The contest winner would receive up to $25,000.00 of home energy improvements including a home energy audit, retro-fit tripolymer insulation in existing walls as well as Icynene spray foam insulation in the attic spaces and new construction spaces.
The initiative created by Paul Paris, managing partner of Zerodraft, and was run as a competition. Contestants from CT and RI submitted applications to be considered on the basis of current energy usage and potential energy savings after the upgrade. The winning home built in 1874, provided the perfect opportunity to showcase the significant energy savings opportunities offered by Zerodraft Insulation LLC. The initial energy audit showed the house was in desperate need of a full home envelope upgrade.
The pre-makeover audit report numbers showed a significant loss of home energy. Blower door readings on the home after the insulation upgrades show an increase in the effectiveness of the homes ability to contain energy. This reading was taken before the installation of new energy efficient windows which will have a significant effect on the homes ability to reduce energy use.
